A bulk carrier under our management has completed her special survey and dry-docking in 18 days, with careful pre-planning keeping yard time and off-hire to a minimum.

Planning made the difference

Preparation started months before the vessel arrived at the yard. Our superintendents prepared a detailed repair specification, compared yard quotations, ordered long-lead spare parts in advance and agreed the survey scope with the classification society.

Because the work list was clear before arrival, the yard could start immediately and carry out several jobs in parallel.

Scope of work

  • Blasting and coating of the underwater hull
  • Inspection and overhaul of sea valves and sea chests
  • Propeller polishing and tailshaft inspection
  • Steel renewals identified during the survey
  • Class special survey items and thickness measurements

Back in service

The vessel left the yard on schedule and returned to trading with her class and statutory certificates renewed. A short off-hire period means lower cost for the owner and more earning days for the vessel.
